Done

All the present are bought and wrapped, except for one but that’s OK. Packages are sent and on their way to wherever they need to go and the Christmas cards are written and sent off as well.
It’s December 13th and I think that’s pretty good. Just one thing I HAVE to do is to find a hotel along I-95 so we can stay somewhere on our fun trip to Florida, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Hopefully.

OH, I should mention that my husband was the one visiting three post offices yesterday and not me. I guess a lot of people had the same idea.

I know

I have to post something. But I have absolutely no energy to come up with something witty and then there is that stupid time factor.
It’s a little hectic here lately but it’ll get better. Especially when I’m off for a week over Christmas. But then I won’t post anything either, because I will be in sunny and warm Florida while all you people up here in the North (or wherever you are) will freeze their “you-know-whats” off. I can’t wait.

Still Alive

Just incredibly busy with absolutely nothing. Does that make sense?
Anyway, life is good and there may be some Big changes in the future, so we’ll see.

Weekend

And finally we have Friday. I know I have been busy doping everything else but posting I thought, I at least have to give you some kind of nonsense blurb before I enjoy my weekend.
\So, here it is!

Nothing much going on here. Christmas Party tonight and Navy beating up Army tomorrow!!!

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Over already?

This weekend started out so nice and it ended kind of nice too. It just went way too fast. Just as those things always go.
I think I’m still a little too doped up to fully function, but at least I’m awake.
A couple more days and I’m done with the meds and hopefully back to normal. By then it is fortunately the weekend again.
This weekend’s plan?
Christmas party in DC on Friday (we booked a hotel room!!!).
Army-Navy game on Saturday!!!! We’re still trying to see where we’re actually going to watch it. Preferably with a couple more navy people around.
Go Navy!

The Day after

I thought it would be way too boring spending my Black Friday getting stomped on and pepper-sprayed. So, I thought, how about some more excitement? And boy, did I have that.
Now I can truly say, I’d rather have a root canal than go shopping.
Funny thing though, my tooth has been hurting on and off for a while but I’m too cheap to spend money on that. So I let it go. Then, Thanksgiving night, I couldn’t go to sleep at all until I took a couple of Advils and so I went to get the root canal done. Thank God, somebody was working yesterday. But after all was done and I get all my prescriptions (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and some nice pain killers), my tooth did not hurt anymore. Not all day yesterday and not today. I would have thought a root canal would ruin my whole weekend but I’m fine.
So, all you people out there that are too scared of a root canal. Don’t worry.

Home Sweet Home

Nothing like coming home and having friends over that are already enjoying a nice cold beer.
I love Thanksgiving!
Done with the wings and on to the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Later

Must be a good day

So at first I thought nothing of the fact that so far the day seemed good. Surely something would come up that would ruin it and at least give me something to really rant about. But then I get the news that we all get to leave early and I’m starting to doubt my initial thoughts.
Maybe the good guy up there just wants to make sure I have something to be thankful for tomorrow. Not that I don’t have enough already.

Holiday Rant

Ok, I figured I go out with a big boom. Not really out, since I’ll be back, but who knows if I’ll be able to post something over the extended weekend.
So, to generate a little traffic, my husband suggested to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving (which I did below) and mention things like “penis enlargement” or “porn” or ”huge boobs” as often as I can, but I didn’t like the idea.

So, I thought a rant would be good. You know, just to pass the time and all. But then I didn’t know what to rant about. Today everybody seemed to be aware of me and the metro ride was OK.
Actually, so far, this day has been pretty good.

I finished reading "My War: Killing Time in Iraq" by Colby Buzzell. I really liked it.
You know, I was thinking, with all the books I read, I should write what I think about books and maybe give a little summary, but when I finish a book I feel like I don’t really have anything to say about it.
So, I’ll just go on to the next book, which will be “Do As I Say (Not As I Do)” by Peter Schweizer. I read good reviews and so I’m looking forward to reading it. Also, even though it is a hardcover, it still fits in my purse, which is a huge plus for me.

So, unless something happens, which will cause me to rant a little more, I think that’s it. At least for now.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Especially to all you travelers going through Washington, DC on I-95 this morning.
As always, I am glad I don’t drive on 95 and very glad I don’t live in Maryland today.

Anybody Home?

You know how those little thingies (*) are next to some links on the blogroll indicating that they just posted recently? Well, for the last couple of days there have hardly been anything going on. I think it works because some still update but most don’t. IS everybody taking the whole week off?

Poor me, I still have to work.

I’m invisible

I’m invisible

At least I think so. This morning I was walking to the elevator in my office building and it opened and this one cleaning lady came out with her big cart. Well that dumb bitch didn’t think it was necessary to move at all once out of the elevator so I couldn’t get in and the elevator took off. What a dumb bitch! (I know I said that already)
So, then, once I get settled in the office get ready to go to kitchen and get some coffee. I walk past the conference room and there is something going on and I’m at the kitchen door and this lady, that I don’t know and have never seen, stands right in front of the kitchen door and doesn’t move! I’m like WTF, bitch? (Not really, but at this point I was kind of upset. Also, I hadn’t had my coffee yet.)
And just now, I was outside and I’m walking to the store. And I know that there are lots of people in DC and all but unless you have a cane I assume you can see. So, this guy walks kind of next to me and then passes me and then (kind of) walks right into me. Like I wasn’t just next to him? Idiot. It’s somewhat hard to explain because some people around here are just plain stupid and you think that they should’ve been killed by a car by now, the way they’re getting around, but this was obvious.
So, this is how it’s been today.

Hungry

I don’t think I ever was this excited about Thanksgiving. I just can’t wait to eat. Not that I’m not eating right now. Believe me, that would be fatal. Not to me but to anyone around me. But I keep thinking about all the food and all the choices and all the people we’ll be spending that day with.
One theory I have about is that since I never celebrated Thanksgiving until I came to the US, I pretty much have 18 or 19 years to catch up. Or I just like the food.
So, forgive me if the next couple of days evolve around how many days are left (2) or how I can’t wait. Of course, it helps having a long weekend too.

Three Days

What a great week. Only three days of work and then four days of eating like crazy. I can’t wait. I’m already hungry and think about turkey and green beans and sweet potatoes and apple pie and all that good stuff. These three days better go by fast or I’m going to be grumpy by Thursday.

Made It

Well, people it's Friday. A day, I thought would never get here.
Now I just have to get busy and hope this day goes by fast.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Ha, me too!

Married to a Sailor, that is.

Almost Forgot

With all the excitement lately I almost forgot to mention that maybe, just maybe, very very soon I will be finally an American citizen.
I got a letter this weekend asking e to appear for an ”initial interview” at the beginning of January. I have to bring all the documents and blah, blah, blah. But I also need to be prepared to take the English and Civics tests. Then they can decide right then and there if they grant me the citizenship and I can elect to take the oath that day. So, I need to study hard…well, I looked the questions over and they are not that hard. But over the next couple of months, if any of you have some questions about American History or something, I might be able to help.

Oh and BTW, this was post #800!!

Guinness Beef (or Deer) Stew

Just in time for Ted to host the Carnival of the Recipes I am posting the recipe for Saturday night’s Stew.
You have go to try this one. We substituted the beef for deer, but not everybody will have deer meat available so I am leaving the recipe the way it is.
Here it goes.

1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/4 pounds stew beef, cut into 1-inch pieces
6 large garlic cloves, minced
6 cups beef stock or canned beef broth
I cup of Guinness beer
1 cup of fine red wine
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 bay leaves
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 7 cups)
1 large onion, chopped
2 cups 1/2-inch pieces peeled carrots
Salt and Pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

1 Heat olive oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add beef and sauté until brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute. Add beef stock, Guinness, red wine, tomato paste, sugar, thyme, Worcestershire sauce and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

2 While the meat and stock is simmering, melt butter in another large pot over medium heat. Add potatoes, onion and carrots. Sauté vegetables until golden, about 20 minutes.

3 Add vegetables to beef stew. Simmer uncovered until vegetables and beef are very tender, about 40 minutes. Discard bay leaves. Tilt pan and spoon off fat. (Can be prepared up to 2 days ahead. Salt and pepper to taste. Cool slightly. Refrigerate uncovered until cold, then cover and refrigerate. Bring to simmer before serving.) Transfer stew to serving bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
Serves 4 to 6

Yummy

Tonight’s menu will feature a Guinness Stew, substituting the beef for deer (yepp, we know hunters). For the health conscious there will be a spinach salad with bacon and honey-mustard vinaigrette.
And to keep things at a comfortable entertainment level we will offer various assortments of beer.
I also heard somebody is going to bring over apple pie (!!!).
Once everybody is ready to burst will exercise some, playing pool.
I can’t wait.

And, if I ever get to it, I will eventually post the recipe for the stew.

Slow

This must be the slowest day ever. I swear it feels like I’ve been here for days. Every time I look at the clock only seconds have passed. I’m afraid I’ll be spending the whole weekend here.
Help!

Friday…again

Now, I am finally almost done with the workweek. Too bad today is my long day but that’s OK. the weekend will be that much better.

Today is Veteran’s Day and I want to thank each current and former service member for all that they have done to make this country the Greatest there is.
Thank you.

Thursday, November 10, 2005

It’s Friday!!!

Not for me but for so many of the people out here. Well, to all of you…you suck.
Thank you. I just had to say it.

Bullshit

I am so glad that they started the whole Minuteman movement up here in NoVa. I still can’t believe they approved that site there in Herndon.

One very funny quote from one of the people “helping” the illegals says.

"They aren't criminals. They are just people who want to work, and they have not come to destroy. They have come to build and help out the community."

Sure. The last time I checked being in the US illegal was a criminal act so you’re wrong.

I went through INS and am still dealing with them. Paying all the money when I didn’t have any and all that stuff. So I have no understanding for anybody coming here illegally. Tough Shit. I’m not going to give you one dime if I don’t have to.

Did it too

I felt so under pressure from everybody that I just had to do it.

One more here and more about it here.

Super Me!

Got up almost two hours late and was only thirty minutes late to work. And I slept well too.

Mondee

And the new workweek started again. Bummer.
Lucky for me (and my grandma), I will be staying here. She seems to recover OK. She is starting to move a little and opens her eyes and seems to recognize everybody, so we’re all happy for her. Let’s just hope that this kind of progress will continue.

Other than that, not much is going here in my world.
Friday seems to be a holiday…but not for me so all you people, who are off suck.

That’s it for now.

can you get arrested for threatening someone?

I think you can. I guess it depends who you threaten.

i am not happy porn

Sorry. Poor guy.
I am not happy porn either.

It couldn’t have been any sooner

Well, the weekend is oh so close. Finally.
Grandma is doing Ok I Guess but I’ll hear more this weekend once my parents get there. She is partially paralyzed and can’t talk. She opened her eyes today and seemed to try to communicate, but we’ll see. My grandpa mentioned that it’ll be hard and that he’ll have a lot of work with her once she comes home.
I am glad I don’t have to go there, although I would have loved to see them all.
Let’s hope she’ll get better.

Thursday, November 03, 2005

What a bitch

This is the very first time, that I hate living over here in the US. And that is only because it is so freaking far away from Germany.
Last Friday, my grandma fell and broker her wrist. On Tuesday she had surgery to re-brake the arm and put it back together. They didn’t give her full anesthesia because she is so old. Today my grandpa had to call the ambulance because she could hardly move anymore. They think she might have had a stroke and she is at the hospital right now to get checked out.
If I were to fly over to Germany tomorrow, it would cost me about $1600. Right. Next week would be more around $550. I hope I don’t have to go over there at all.
She’ll be 86 this weekend.

Boo!

Is it that time of the year already? Since I don’t usually dress up..well, never actually have, I will help out in a not-so-scary way tonight at an Elementary School. I’ll help the little kiddos that are too scared get out of the haunted house so they don’t have nightmares. Compared to my hubby who will try and scare the shit out of them.

Word Verification

Maybe now, I won’t have all that comment spam anymore. Let’s see if it helps.

It’s coming!!!

It’s almost here. Just a little bit longer and the waiting is over.
What am I talking about?

(OK, now I wish I could hide the rest or else this wouldn’t make sense. Anybody know how?)

BTW. I was talking about the weekend…..

Back from the dead

Well, I finally made it back home yesterday and after a well-deserved goodnight sleep, I am back in the office.
I am so glad it’s Friday!
So, did I miss anything?

Light Blogging

Due to a severe case of an empty brain I have not been able to post anything at all today. My apologies to all who were expecting something.

I'll be GONE for a few days (back on Friday) for a very important business trip. Maybe I get bored over on the West Coast and actually post something interesting.

Later.

Strip Club Review

Well, I was going to do some “research” for that project tonight, but it all didn’t work out, but hopefully I get to go in the near future.
Instead I will be spending my evening at or in a friend’s hot tub….can’t wait!

If anyone is interested in sponsoring my research though; donations are welcome, preferably in one-dollar bills.

Thanks.

I want to live there!

Just read that in a local (Florida) newspaper.
WE HAVE 2 OR 3 bedroom MH, clean, close to prison.

Sounds good, huh?

Hmm. They must’ve been delayed this morning

I know VRE sucks. That’s why I stopped riding it. Metro costs as much with parking and they run every 5-6 minutes and I am on time once again. Lucky me, I live close to the VRE and metro stops.
Now, I get to complain about idiots riding the metro again, but so far all the idiots were fat and that’s boring.

Pigs

I would estimate that about 70-80% of people that are finding their way over here are looking for porn.
Just because one single person somehow made it here looking for free Danish porn.
Maybe I should keep posting about this and hope that one day more than 100 people get here and celebrate.
Too sad that they don’t come here because of the excellent content….

Damn tree huggers

Someone in Oregon won the jackpot…idiot.
But that’s OK. The starting jackpot is still $15 Million.

Chicken

So, you think prices for chicken will go down? If so, that’s what I’m going to be eating. Just when the whole mad cow disease thing started in Europe and all in Germany. Beef was so cheap over there; we had steaks almost every other day. We’re all going to die anyway.
Plus with all the high gas prices you need to find cheap food.

Could be me

When I’m hungry, I need to eat right then and there. No waiting at the microwave for me baby.

Blog Advice

If you want to increase the amount of people going to your site have a little post about this.
Porn just attracts all kinds of people. Sorry though, since I don’t really have any of that stuff here.
I could write some local strip club reviews, but coming from a girl, all you’d get would be which outfits I like and what the max height of heels I could stand.
That reminds me, a couple of weeks ago I saw a pregnant stripper well….strip. That’s just wrong.

Conspiracy Theory

OK, I finally have my own now. Well, I’m sure others have said this before but this is all MINE.
His is how it all began.

I did have funny thought though this morning while I was riding the metro. When I went to college (George Mason University) and I took English 101 (that’s right, I took the class for native English speakers and not the foreigners’ class), our professor was really into writing articles and such. So he encouraged us to write about certain issues and submit them to the student newspaper, the Broadside. Well, I wrote a couple of those about topics that interested me and that I felt passionate about but I never got published. OK, there are many students that don’t get to have their stuff published, I thought, but today I was thinking that it might have had something to do with the content of the things I wrote about.

That could be. But that's just me.

Oh and BTW, I am currently reading How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) : The World According to Ann Coulter by Ann Coulter, after just finishing The Official Handbook of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy by Mark W. Smith. Before that I read Let Freedom Ring : Winning the War of Liberty over Liberalism by Sean Hannity and before that I read Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right by Ann Coulter.
Who would've thought?

free danish porn

I hope you found what you were looking for.
Or should I say:
Ich hoffe, Du hast gefunden, was Du gesucht hast.

(My German is getting a little rusty)

New Bond

Did anybody see him?

Who’s that supposed to be? That is not how James Bond looks like. Look at his ears! I want my Brosnan back.

PLEASE!

My chances just went up

I know, it’s getting kind of lame with me and the whole Powerball stuff, but I have nothing else to write about now, so just shut up and read!
This Saturday’s jackpot is $290 Million. And I have 100 tickets. Now, I didn’t turn all stupid and spend $100 on Powerball tickets. I only got 5, but my office decided it was time for a career changes and got 95 tickets as well. So, of course that won’t give me as much but still a pretty good amount to quit.

So, if you don’t hear from me after tomorrow, I might be a Millionaire (or I just don’t have anything to write about).

And Fridee it is!!

About time, if you ask me, but nobody every does.

I thought, I really need to write some profound, but as hard as I try, nothing comes to mind.
Well, maybe I have more later.

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Monument has been evacuated after a bomb threat was reported.

The threat was made by phone to D.C. Police.

Park Police are evacuating the grounds around the monument, but traffic routes in the area are open.

Security officers will search the grassy areas around the structure for anything suspicious.

The Washington Monument was evacuated Friday after a bomb threat. Nothing suspicious was found.

Want to read

I really do want to read, but there is this huge stack of things that I need to file and the checkbook needs to be balanced and….
So, what am I doing instead? Spending hours on the computer doing really nothing.
Is it time for a drink yet?

Trying it again

OK, after not winning the jackpot last night I am now trying for the $205 Million jackpot. I was close to buying scratchers, but I didn’t want to waste my money.

UPDATE: OK, I'll try again on Wednesday.

Spam me a Comment

Ok, this is getting really funny.
First the penis enlargement (no thank you, mine is long enough), then something about sex toys (no thanks again, I got enough), and now a “work from home” offer? Geesh people, can’t you do any better?

I’m gonna be rich

That’s right because I have the winning ticket for the Powerball drawing tonight.
$180 Million, baby.

Thank you

Today is Unification Day in Germany.

My dad pointed me to this Radio Station that plays songs by German artists only all day. And they do have a live stream.

One to go

Right now I only need one more visitor to reach the magic 5000 mark. I hope the lucky one will at least get here because of recent postings and not because of OLD pictures.

Made it

The weekend is over and I am still doing OK.
Besides going to the Oktoberfest, which was OK, this weekend was very special, because Saturday was the very first day my husband officially retired from the United States Navy!!!
He celebrated by going fishing and getting a real nice sunburn. His brother called from Kuwait (he is in the California National Guard), and wanted to tease him about being old and retired. But I reminded my brother in law that he is actually the older of the two.
Anyway, so now that we’re not active duty anymore things are going to change a little bit. Well, they have been different every since his last day in mid July.
One very important fact is a “civilian” job, which he has yet to find. But we’re still OK. I keep telling my parents that we are not YET having to move to Florida, because surely the money we’ll be making by selling our house here will buy us a nice little home down there (at least a double wide!!). Just kidding.
So, that was my weekend. Oh, and I had steak too!!!!

Hmmm….Pork

Most of you (hopefully) know about Glenn Reynolds' and The Truth Laid Bear’s efforts concerning the pork busting.
Well, I e-mailed my Representative Tom Davis and also the two Virginia Senators George Allen and John Warner. And finally Tom Davis responded. He doesn’t commit to anything, which, sadly, I did not expect, but I am going to post his response here anyway.
As you know, in response to the destruction brought to the Gulf Coast, Congress passed two emergency supplemental bills that provide $62.3 billion for emergency response and recovery needs. I appreciate the concerns many Americans have regarding the spending level to respond to such a disaster, and how to defray such costs. Currently, all possible options are being looked at including across the board agency cuts, reductions in previously appropriated funds, and scaling back planned tax cuts.

Some have recommended cutting transportation projects from the recently passed transportation bill. This is an idea that I do not support. The reality is that the earmarks that I helped secure for Northern Virginia in this bill simply specify how money given to Virginia should be spent. Otherwise, the funds would simply be given to VDOT and then distributed by Richmond to other parts of the state. As you know, Northern Virginians have long been concerned that their needs are not appreciated by other parts of the state.

Given Northern Virginia's extreme traffic problems and numerous transportation infrastructure needs, it is important that projects such as widening 66 inside the beltway, improving the Rt. 66 and Rt. 29 interchange in Gainesville, widening 29 between Eaton Place and 123 in Fairfax City, and widening I-95 from 123 to the Fairfax County Parkway get the necessary funds to address the congestion here in Northern Virginia.

This is not to say, however, that spending is not a concern. As Congress looks at all proposals to address the Katrina situation, please be assured that I will keep your concerns in mind. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me, and please continue to keep me informed of issues of importance to you.

Sincerely,

Tom Davis
Member of Congress

Still Alive

I just don’t have any motivation and/or material (if you can call it that).
So I’m just going to force some kind of coherent post out of me to prove that I am still here (or there?).

This weekend is Oktoberfest on Ft. Belvoir, so go enjoy the beer. Most people like the food too, but I think it sucks. It doesn’t taste like it does in Germany at all. Plus I hate Sauerkraut and all that stuff anyway.

That’s all.
For now.

More Nuts in DC

The DC police just e-mailed an alert that some idiots are going to bicycle through DC starting at Dupont Circle right around rush hour traffic, so be prepared. I am still so happy I don’t drive down here.
I am not going to post a link but according to their site it is supposed to be at 6 PM. It looks like they do that often but I assume it will draw more of them because of this weekend’s events.

Cute

That is too cute.
So, I hardly get comments anyway. Well, almost never. But I get comment Spam? That is too cool.
Too bad I don’t need a larger penis though….

UPDATE: The guy with the large penis has this IP address: 24.249.157.229. It just traces back to Cox.

Really?

You’ve got to be kidding me.
This guy think the Japanese Mob cause Katrina. Can you believe that?
To the rest of the country, Scott Stevens is the Idaho weatherman who blames the Japanese Mafia for Hurricane Katrina. To folks in Pocatello, he's the face of the weather at KPVI News Channel 6.

What an idiot.

Everybody knows it was Bush who did it.

****BREAKING NEWS*****

There is a new Asterix comic out today!!!!! You don’t know who that is????? What’s wrong with you??? I have ALL of them (bound in leather).
So, if you’re one of those sorry people who have no idea what I am talking about just go here and get to know the greatest Gallic warrior ever.
How exciting!!!!!!

Rita

Ok, so here we go again. Well, not “we” since I’m in DC and not in Texas, but I digress.

See, the thing is everything will start all over again. So I was happy that I just filled up my car with real cheap gas, because you know the price gauging will start again and then I have to top off every two miles or so, because that really helps. So, what does my husband do? He takes my car all the way into DC and back and who knows where else (he did get the oil changed though, so Thanks sweetie!!). And now I am close to half a tank again. Great.

Oops, I forgot to post this...silly me.

But I did find a much more intelligent post about the gas prices than mine over at Outside the Beltway.

No news is good news

Or so they say.
Because of a lack of energy I decided to stay home yesterday and get some important things done…like going out to lunch and then to IKEA. Well, actually I did clean my bathroom.
Other than that, nothing seems to happen worth noting here. Expect maybe the German elections, or whatever you want to call it. I was so excited to vote and look where it got me.
David and Ray have excellent coverage over at David’s Medienkritik so go there and educate yourselves!

Oh and don’t let me forget that I got a comment!!! Ted was kind enough to ensure that I can be funny so, thanks again. And I did think about the importance of yesterday and actually got some “Arrrghs” out. Funny though, because we are a little Pirate connected, if you can say that. No only is my beloved hubby in the Navy (Beat Army!!!) but I am somewhat involved with pirates too.

Where is FEMA?

A state of emergency has been declared here in Virginia and not one FEMA rep has been here to see if we are OK. Unbelievable!! Why is Bush ignoring me?

That was funny…..No?

Damn it

My stupid zipper on my pants just broke and I can’t fix it. Perfect timing too. Luckily it’s on the side and not the front. Can you imagine that? I have a cardigan to wrap around but how stupid is that?
Now, I have to go home and change pants, but I was going to leave in an hour anyways, so what the hell?
So I talked to my hubby and he said “Lucky you’re not going commando today”. Yeah, right, I think I’d prefer people seeing my hips rather than my colorful panties. And no, I will not say what they look like.
What a great freaking day. It can only get better, I hope.

I get to vote!!!

Yesterday all my voting material arrived from Germany.
After finding out, through my helpful dad, that they never received my application, I was able to fax them everything last Friday and now I only have to hope that my letter will arrive safely and on time.
This may actually be the last time I get to vote in Germany.

Back to School….I mean work

And the long weekend is over already.
But it was fun. I got my last sunburn for the year (hopefully), thanks to King’s Dominion.
I think I drank about a case of beer over the weekend and I am still not sick of it…I really must be German then.
Other than that, everything is the same here.

Now I just need to find something to write about.

It's Official: Evacuees Will Come To D.C.

WASHINGTON -- D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams has confirmed that the D.C. National Guard Armory will be used to house people displaced by the hurricane.

In a statement put out by the mayor's office, as many as 400 of Katrina's victims could head to the nation's capital.

Buses will be sent to transport the victims to Washington so that authorities in New Orleans can concentrate on the cleanup and rebuilding.

Go to NBC4.com for more.

Unbelievable – Or is it?

I always listen to a local radio station in Hamburg, Germany via the Internet.
And they just some expert on catastrophes named Robert Schmidt on because of the hurricane.
As expected he critize a lot but what got me was that he clearly said that this could not ever happen in Germany, mainly because German people were more civilized. He really said that. Wow.

In other news, I found out today that my husband’s cousin was one of those people who decided to stay in New Orleans, where he is now. He said he was doing fine and that he had enough water and food left.

Also, like a lot of people in DC area, my husband went with about 12 people from his Chief Petty Officer Association (CPOA) to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Northwest Washington to help the refugees from the Gulfport home move into their new homes (for now). He said it was really sad to see some of those people, but he thought the organizers did a great job trying to put everything together on such a short notice.

Ok, that’s it from me for now.

Blog for Relief Day

Please go here and select the charity of your choice.
Mine will be the American Red Cross.

Also, please see Glen’s post, which lists bloggers and their selections.

Speechless

Don’t think I am going away again, because I am not, but I just don’t have anything to say. Well, I do, but I can’t put it into words.
I am reading articles and reports all day long about the devastation and when I come home the TV is on.
For me to start writing about what is currently going on is useless, since it changes every hour and I don’t think that it’ll make a difference what I have to add. Others are doing a much better job at trying to keep people updated and so you might want to go there.
I also don’t think I want to write about anything else, for now anyway. It doesn’t matter how people on the metro piss me off or how my teeth don’t hurt. People lost everything down there and I am not going to complain about how I was 15 minutes late yesterday. Can you just imagine? I am watching all this yesterday. Babies being moved to other hospitals, people having no food. Idiots stealing TVs and all that and at 10 I get tired, turn the TV off and go to my nice bed and get up this morning to go to work, while all those people down there don’t even have a mattress.

So, what do you do?
Of course, you want to give and today is the day for bloggers to do just that.
My husband and I are going to wait. His sister lives in Biloxi and as of yesterday they were on their way back with a trailer full of water generators and whatever else you can think of. She might need some money, so we’ll give her some. They both worked at the casinos that are not really there anymore. Her husband was actually supposed to start working at the Hard Rock this weekend.

It’s just unimaginable when you see all that on TV and read about it.

Ah Better

So I went to the dentist and got butchered. The sedation finally wore off and now, that I got some Advil in me, I feel much better.
So, what to do with the rest of the day?

Monday, Monday

And yet again, it is Monday.
Lucky me, I am off tomorrow, but I guess I’m not so lucky, since I will get my teeth drilled until I pass out but, hey, at least I don’t have to go to work, right?
Whatever.
So, the weekend went by fast. The pool party actually happened on Saturday, although I am sad to report, that nobody jumped in the pool. I guess there were occasions in the past but not this weekend.
Oh well, now the preparations for this coming weekend start. Fortunately this will be a long one, which we’ll need, since we will be spending our Saturday at the annual CPO day at King’s Dominion. This year we will actually stay overnight at the wonderful Best Western next door. Maybe we will actually get to go on some rides too.
If you want to know what the CPO day is all about dcmilitary.com has an article about this year’s event.

Latest Developments

OK, the afternoon fun with the kids has been cancelled. Let’s hope the adults don’t chicken out now. If they do, it’ll be some pool fun of another kind. I am talking about playing pool. That reminds me to make sure we have enough cold beer.

Happy Feet

Can you tell I am bored?

Rain, rain, rain

Pretty much everything we had planned for today is supposed to be outside.
One thing, I don’t mind if it gets rained out and that one would go very fast since kids are involved and parents tend to cancel easier when it rains.
Then there is this pool party tonight, but that involves NO kids and a lot of alcohol so people there are probably trying to keep this one going, no matter what.
So, we’ll see what the day will bring. I know I’m not carrying groceries in this weather.

Oh my god

Can this day be any slower? There is absolutely nothing going on here and I am just bored out of my mind. Usually on Friday afternoons there is the latest “get this done NOW” stress but not today. It’s just quite. Plus I am freezing to death in here, which doesn’t make it any easier being here.
What to do, what to do?

It’s Friday!!!

Finally it is almost the weekend and so far, we don’t have anything planned...I think.
Oh well. And then there’s just short weeks coming. Next Tuesday I am off!!!! Because I have another dentist appointment….I don’t get how something so small as a tooth can be so expensive to get fixed. I mean I can buy an old beat up car for what I am paying to get my teeth fixed.
Oh well, so I will finally get that stuff done and then we are ready to switch insurance companies…..I am wondering how that is going to go but I am a little anxious. Retiring from the military is way too stressy but so far it’s going good. Yes, my husband retired. Well, officially not until the end of September but all the ceremonies etc. are all over. So, either he finds a job real soon or we’re going to have to move Florida or somewhere where it’s cheap so we can afford a house. It’ll be OK…hopefully.

UPDATE: Search for Terror Suspect Ends in Hamburg

I guess they couldn't find anything or anybody.
BERLIN - Police in the northern German city of Hamburg said Friday they had called off a large-scale search for three men overheard talking in Arabic at a bus stop about becoming "heroes before Allah."

One of the men was alleged to have said, "We will stand tomorrow as heroes before Allah."

Police spokeswoman Ulrike Sweden said the search was abandoned during the night with no results but police would continue to work with tips from the public.

He said police would not have reacted the same way to similar information two years ago but that their approach has changed, particularly in light of July‘s London bombings.

Police hunt Arab trio after bus stop tip-off

Let's hope this is just a scare.
Police in Hamburg launched a massive search for three men overheard talking in Arabic at a bus stop about "heroism before Allah".
I know this is just a wittiness saying what he heard, but this is Hamburg and I am a little concerned as to what they find out.

Is it Monday?

OK, I really thought today was Thursday, and somewhere in the back of my mind I know that this is true. But everything that could make this day seem like a Monday so far happened.
First, I (re)experience the reason why I switched back to the metro; mainly because VRE sucks ass. They increase prices and start having more delays and what not. Can you believe I prefer the metro now and enjoy using it?
Then, after getting to work late, the server is down. But of course I am all frantic because I am late and have to send e-mails and go online and nothing works. Great. Switch to hotmail to let my folks in Germany know that hotmail will have to do for this morning’s e-mail session.
The worst part is that I only have half the day today top get things done so it is even more stressful…..I need a drink.

No, not Killing....

...just kidnapping.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative U.S. evangelist Pat Robertson, who called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said on Wednesday he was misinterpreted and there were a number of ways to "take him out" including kidnapping.

Yeah, "take him out" can have all kinds of meanings.
I personally think he meant, take him out to dinner, but what do I know.

Great!

So, what am I supposed to do now?
All the Munuvians are out and now my blogroll is gone too. No links to go to, but they wouldn't work anyway.
Well, I know Pixy Misa will get everything fixed real soon so I finally have something to do again. If you have a withdrawal, like me, just go to the MuNu emergency blog.

Wait, I'm at work, I should have something to do...somewhere....

UPDATE: They're back. I have something to do again!!!!!

Get him!

PARIS (AP) - The director of the Tour de France claims Lance Armstrong has "fooled" the sports world and that the seven-time champion owes fans an explanation over new allegations he used a performance-boosting drug.

Can you tell, I don't like him?

Excuse Me?

OK, so I can’t close a door here when I'm taking a break, but when I am sitting here with food in front of me, my mouth full, and trying to not pay attention as to what’s going on behind me, doesn’t that pretty much say “Fuck you, I am on my lunch break and when I don’t get to eat on time I go postal!”?
What’s wrong with people?
Every time. I can count on it, this one person, who is only here temporarily does that.
Food is very important to me, especially lunch. I wait to eat lunch an hour before it is actually time to eat lunch. That makes me so mad.

(Now, don’t think I am this fat, disgusting pig that stuffs food in her mouth, ‘cause I’m not. OK? Now, let me eat, damn it.)

Elections

My dad keeps scarring me that I didn’t do it right, when I applied to get all my voting material for the German elections. He said I had to go to the embassy or write to Berlin but I know I had to send it the city I was last registered in. So, I had to look it up again, just to be sure and of course, I WAS RIGHT. The good thing is too that it says that you have to mail it in before August 25th and I did that already weeks ago, so I should be fine…I get to vote!!!!!!
